Vacancy

As a Supply Chain Engineer at IMS, you are responsible for the procurement of technical components for the construction of machines. You are involved in all construction projects and discuss with the Project Leader what needs to be purchased, arrival dates and which specifications need to be complied with. After that, you create purchase quotes, purchase orders and order confirmations, and monitor the current order.

IMS works with 30 to 40 suppliers for the production and purchase of parts. Some parts you buy regularly, as they are used for almost every project. In most cases, purchasing requires more operations: many parts still need to be assembled and you need to go to another supplier for this. This results in orders following various routes within the supply chain process.

As soon as a project starts, you are in daily contact with the Work Planner, the Engineers and the Project Leader. You look for suppliers who can meet their needs, and it is important for you to have technical knowledge for this. As well as being able to read technical drawings and convert them into an order, you also need to be able to answer concrete questions about technical elements that suppliers ask you. Even after the order has been placed, you remain in close contact with the suppliers. You are aware of the schedules and if there is a delayed delivery, you will let your colleagues know.

In addition, you draw up monthly reports on purchasing targets and delivery performances. You have discussions with (potential) suppliers and make clear to what extent IMS is satisfied with the cooperation.

You are part of the Business Office team with three colleagues and one Manager. Your focus is on purchasing, but you are willing to take over tasks from colleagues during busy times. For example, you could support the Logistics Assistant with taking orders.

Acquisition in response to this vacancy is not appreciated. We do not derive rights or obligations from profiles and cv's that are sent unsolicited. Therefore, we regard them as not being sent.

If you enjoy being involved with purchasing, and find it challenging to work in a small supply chain department and therefore sometimes carry out colleagues’ tasks, then this is a job for you.

Working week

Supply Chain Engineer

On an enjoyable working day, you manage to have parts with a long delivery time delivered earlier. This reduces the delay of the project and reduces the pressure on colleagues from the project team.

On a less enjoyable day you have completed a large order, but it turns out that it is no longer correct due to a changed design. This will require you to reverse and resubmit the order, which takes unnecessary extra time.

Firsthand experience

You are discussing the procurement planning with the Project Manager due to certain parts not being delivered on time. This is causing project delay. How do you proceed?

Delivery time delays are quite common and therefore you will often face surprises. Most suppliers IMS works with indicate the delay in time. In this case, the supplier called you as well, indicating the parts will be delivered in three weeks instead of one week. This means that the project team colleagues cannot continue. Fortunately, it only concerns the delivery of electrical components; there are plenty of other suppliers that sell these. You search online and investigate whether the specific serial numbers of the components can be obtained from another supplier. In the end, you find a supplier that has plenty of electrical components in stock. You contact the supplier, purchase the components and report back to the Project Managers as soon as possible.

Growth

The growth path within IMS is not fixed. You will be given the opportunity and room for personal and professional growth, for example by following training courses. IMS makes a budget and set time available for this. In addition, initiative and entrepreneurship are highly valued within IMS.

Daniël (32) - Mechanical Engineering

Why did you decide to work for this company?
At IMS you work for a lot of types of clients, although you also go into depth. That attracted me more than going for one niche in mechanical engineering. Moreover, we develop our machines ourselves from start to finish. It is also very nice to see that something, which you have thought up and calculated yourself, really works.

What did you study?
Master Mechanical Engineering at University of Twente.

What do you do in your spare time?
Producing music

Bart Oude Lohuis (36) - Lead Engineer (Mechanical Engineering)

At IMS you are involved in the development and realization of a machine from the beginning to the end. What you come up with and design, is in front of you a few weeks later and needs to be tested. There is also a lot of variety in the projects: from machines for automotive products to components for smartphones and medical implants. At IMS it will all pass by!
