What is required?

  • Completed technical college education
  • Broad experience with Embedded software (C and C++) and Windows-based test software (Python, C and C++, Matlab
  • Nice to have: free Pascal experience
  • Experience with version control, software development tools and static code checkers
  • Nice to have: experience with Bluetooth, WiFi, Linux, PLC programming and VCA motor control is a plus
  • Experience with communication protocols (modbus, RS485)
  • Be able to read electrical schematics
  • Being able to create software design documentation (setting up the software architecture) for industrial application
  • Good command of the English language, both verbally and in writing
  • Nice to have: Advisory, persuasive, environment-conscious and result-oriented
  • Able and willing to work in a start-up environment, goal oriented and good adaptability

As a Software Development Engineer at Blue Heart Energy, you are responsible for designing and developing the application and product layer software for the heat pump and test control system. You define and develop the functional software design documentation in consultation with our development partner. To start with, you will mainly be involved in developing the software application and product layer of the heat pump, and updating the design documentation according. You will also help develop possible test tools, such as unit test software to test the embedded software and functional test software for testing the Heat pump.

In addition, you have an advisory role to the Electronics Software and Controls (ESC) manager on topics such as software design and architecture, revision management systems, software development platforms and static code checkers. Finally, you conduct research into new developments in the field of software development tools, software languages and software design that may be of interest to Blue Heart Energy's systems and devices.

You are part of the ESC team. In addition to you, this team consists of an ESC manager; 2 software developers, a Mechatronics Engineer and a Controls engineer. In this position, you report to the ESC manager. You will also work in a multifunctional agile team on various projects within Blue Heart Energy.

You are asked to develop software for a test setup, how do you proceed?

You start a process like this by asking for the requirements of this specific setup. What should the setup be able to do and what features are included? Then you start by drawing up the software design document, which defines and describes the architecture. From this document, you determine the software modules and the interfaces between them and start developing the software. During the process, you regularly discuss topics with the Mechatronics Engineer, Controls Engineer and other software developers within your multidisciplinary team.

BlueHeart Energy was founded in 2016 to apply thermoacoustics as a technology in heat pumps and other applications as a replacement of compression technology. Thermoacoustics is a disruptive approach to generate heat and cold, with potential to revolutionize the whole industry. Over the past seven years, BHE has developed a thermoacoustic engine to power heat pumps and airco systems in residential buildings and other (industrial) applications. This so called 'Blue Heart' of a heat pump is sold to manufacturers. We are continuous improving the 'Blue Heart' with new developed and optimizations. As well we will develop different products over time. Besides this, we will set up our production facility, strengthen the relationships with our customers (OEM's and ODM's) and set up pilot projects in houses and other (industrial) applications and monitor these.

Before this, I studied thermoacoustics during my master and PhD program and I was always eager to combine thermoacoustics with an environmentally friendly system. I came across Blue Heart energy's website during my research period and I was an immediate fan. When Michiel pitched all his ideas to me, I only thought about one thing:when can I start?

Before joining Blue Heart Energy company, I was busy with PhD program at Tarbiat Modares University besides doing some research for aerospace institute.

Playing football, inline skating and of course still working on PhD.
