What is required?
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar
- At least 7 years of experience in a similar role
- Strong knowledge of mechanical design principles, such as material selection, mechanical analysis, and production processes
- Experience with design software such as CAD; familiarity with FEA is a plus
- Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively
- Passion for mechanical engineering

As the Manager of Mechanical Engineering at BlueHeart Energy, you lead a dynamic team of seven engineers. The team drives the design of the thermoacoustic engine for heat pumps and manages the company's test setups. Your role is multifaceted, focusing on functional management, people management, and stakeholder management.
In functional management, you assess new projects, ensuring they align with the team's capabilities and company goals. You ensure the team is well-staffed, oversee the key projects and set clear priorities. When issues arise beyond your control, you escalate them to higher management. Your goal is to ensure the team delivers high-quality work on time.
Your people management responsibilities are centered on team development. You provide candid feedback, coach, and inspire your team. Regular performance reviews and development plans are part of your strategy to foster continuous growth. You create an environment where employees can excel, both now and in the future, promoting a growth mindset and outward thinking. By teaching problem-solving through hands-on coaching, you encourage team members to take responsibility and initiative, fostering ownership and decision-making.
Knowledge sharing is another critical aspect of your role. BlueHeart Energy was founded in 2016 to apply thermoacoustics as a technology in heat pumps. Thermoacoustics is a disruptive approach to generate heat and cold, with potential to revolutionize the whole industry. Over the past seven years, BHE has developed a thermoacoustic engine to power heat pumps in residential buildings. This so called 'Blue Heart' of a heat pump is sold to manufacturers. In the coming years, the 'Blue Heart' will have to be further developed and optimized. Besides this, we will set up our production facility, strengthen the relationships with our customers (Manufacturers of heat pumps) and set up pilot projects in houses and monitor these.
